Description

August 2:

Introduction to the Art of Sashiko

Sashiko is a traditional Japanese embroidery art of reinforcing textiles to prolong their wear by employing running stitches. Born out of frugal necessity. today it’s a decorative art we cherish. This surface design technique can be applied to quilting, mending and household items. The preprinted Sashiko cloth you will utilize in class makes it easier to create uniform and beautiful stitches every time. When you are done, the markings are washed away by soaking the cloth, if desired, with only your stitches remaining. We will also discuss other tools you can employ to create your own designs in the future. There is a meditative component to hand stitching I believe you will appreciate. Everyone is welcome to try this wonderfully portable art.
