Looking for summer fun for the kids? The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums is offering 

Young Pioneers Camp on 

July 15-18, 1-3 pm. 

The camp offers four afternoons of pioneering fun. Travel into the past and discover what life in our region was like in the early 19th century. Young Pioneers Camp is aimed at youth in grades 2-5. Campers will prospect for minerals by candlelight with early mining tools, just like an early lead miner in the Mississippi Mining District; create unique crafts, popular in pioneering times; learn about early Native American people in Southwest Wisconsin; cook over a fire and make homemade ice cream; play historic outdoor games; and more. Registration is $35 per student for non-members and $25 per student for Museum members. Advance registration is required. 

The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums are located on Main Street in Platteville, Wisconsin, in the heart of the historic Upper Mississippi Valley lead-zinc mining region. The mission of the Museum is to continue in the pursuit of excellence in the areas of regional and mining history. To achieve that purpose, the Museum is commissioned to be custodians of the past; to interpret the rich lead and zinc mining heritage of the region, as well as to preserve, interpret, and display the artifacts that define Southwest Wisconsin. The Museum is open Wednesday – Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., from May to October. Cultural programs and special events are offered year-round.
